Discovering the beautiful Southerndown Beach in Wales | By Patricia Bech
The most exciting thing that happened to me this Easter — apart from the amount of chocolate eggs I ate and some beautiful flowers that I received (check them out on my Twitter page) — was the discovery of one of the most amazing beaches that I have ever visited!
If you follow the Patricia Bech Travel Notes you will know that I am very fond of the UK and really like to explore places on the British Isles. I like England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. I often like to visit beaches and some of my favourite are in Scotland, Norfolk and Devon.
That said, these may all be pushed down the list by my latest find. I absolutely adore the hidden treasure that is Southerndown Beach in Wales. I visited over Easter and I was stunned by the setting.
It is often quite difficult to find a beach that has a lot of variety. This beach has outstanding stretches of golden sand, unbelievable rocks and rock pools, as well as breath-taking clifftops that tower above you! When I visited, it was also quite quiet. I am sure it gets very busy in the summer months, but I definitely get the impression that this beach is slightly off the beaten track and perhaps not as obvious as some of the other beaches in the UK.
When I visited, I couldn’t believe the number of pretty shells that I found and also some beautifully shaped rocks of all shapes and sizes. I also saw lots of starfish as the tide went out, as well as other sea life and plenty of seaweed. There was a little coffee shop on the carpark and the carpark also has some well kept toilets — these types of facilities are very appreciated if you are spending the day at the beach.
The cove like setting really was amazing and I cannot recommend this destination highly enough to anyone looking to discover a beautiful beach in Wales.
